Manchester United's latest signing!!!
The 41-year-old has been confirmed by United as the new man heading up youth football at Old Trafford as the club attempt to fill the hole left by Brian McClair's departure in 2015.And Butt, who played for Man United, Newcastle, and Birmingham in his career, has revealed he will draw on his experiences under different managers in his new role."Obviously the one that jumps out is Sir Alex [Ferguson] but I worked with Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle as well," Butt told MUTV."I’ll concentrate on what I feel I’m good at and the rest of it will be supported by people in that part of the job."Butt's appointment is part of a continued restructuring of United's academy.McClair, who had been with the club as a coach since 1999 and run the youth system since 2006, joined the Scottish FA last summer as their national performance director. The club have also brought in former Ajax scout Henny de Regt as they overhaul their set-up which has fallen behind rivals Manchester City since they opened their City Football Academy last season.ButExpress Sportunderstands the Glazers are attempting to impose budget cuts across the club including the academy.Nevertheless Butt is eager for the challenge and confident he will receive the backing of the club hierarchy."I’m very proud," he added. "I think it’s a massive job and something I’m going to be passionate about. If I’m honest, it wasn’t in my mind a year ago but this opportunity has come around and thankfully it’s come to the point when I took it on board. "Now it’s time to move forward and move the club back to where we feel it should be – we’re still producing some great players for the first team, as we’vealways done for many, many years but we always need to look forward. "We can’t stand still as a team in any area of the club. "I’ve had reassurances about where we’re going so it’s all positive."
