If you were a teenager in the 1990s, you’ll remember MTV not as a broadcasting colossus responsible forlaunching the careers of potty mouthed teenage moms, sexually incontinent twenty-somethings and Miley Cyrus’s tongue, but as a music channel.They showed music videos on rotation, of which there were four. One of them was by Eros Ramazzotti, who was (and still is) massively famous in Europe, and spent most of the decade wandering about looking lovelorn in amber tones, if his videography is any evidence.All of this is irrelevant except thatErostipped up at Barca’s training ground yesterdayand, among other things, provoked Lionel Messi into one of the most sublime strikes you’ll ever see.I know we say this a lot, to the point where it feels like cliche sometimes, but it’s over twenty years since Ramazzotti was on MTV. How quickly that’s passed.It’ll happen again, but Eros is still making albums, doing tours and exercising his gift for fun and profit. Whatever Messi’s doing in 2036, it won’t be controlling a football by sheerforce of will, mainly because even if his humility remains intact, his knees won’t.Watch him while you still can.
