John Obi Mikel: I was shaking on my first day at Chelsea -
Chelsea signed a 19-year-old Mikel in 2006 before the Nigeriainternational went on to becomean increasingly important member of the Blues side underJose Mourinho, and was duly rewarded by being named as Chelsea's Young Player of the Year. The Portuguese's second spell in charge, however, saw Mikel fall down the pecking order before the arrival of Guus Hiddink in December saw the midfielder reintegrated into the starting line-up again - with the 28-year-old impressing since. With Mikel approaching his 10-year anniversary at the club, the midfielder has admitted arriving at the club as a youngster was a frightening experience for him because he felt he needed to earn the right to play alongside the likes of Chelsea captain John Terry and Blues legend Frank Lampard. Speaking in the latest edition of Chelsea magazine, Mikel said: "Icame into the dressing room that day literally shaking.I saw the players that were in there – the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Claude Makelele, Geremi, Michael Essien, Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko – it was crazy. And I was just 19."I was shaking the whole day because I couldn’t talk to any of them. I didn’t know what to say to guys like that. They were really nice guys, but it was scary. "It can be tough coming into a dressing room like that as a younger player. You had to earn the right to be among them."
